Process to generate Diag Bundle Using Local Web UI in Vmware SDWAN
When connection to the VMware SD-WAN Edge is not possible through the Orchestrator or the internet, this can be helpful in technical support instances that need DIAG bundle analysis.
By default, access to the local Web UI of an enabled Edge with a configuration is disabled. Firewall setup settings on the VMware SD-WAN Edge must permit an IP address associated with a local device if the local Web UI is to be accessible. To set this up, we can use either the Profile or the Edge level configurations.
Device connectivity to the VMware SD-WAN Orchestrator is required for this update. Resetting the device to factory settings is the only way to get into the Edge if it’s offline and the firewall settings weren’t done earlier.
You may find this page in the Orchestrator UI under Configure->Edge->Firewall>Edge Access when you’re at the edge level. If you were to apply this exception to numerous Edges, the profile level would be very similar.
Below steps can be followed to access the edge’s WEB-UI:-
Step-1 Connect a client device to a LAN interface on the edge. This will allow you to view the Edge’s Local Web UI.
Step-2 This step depends on whether the VMware SD-WAN edge is in an active state that utilizes a configuration or if it is in an inactivated state that uses the factory defaults.
If the edge is in activated state:-
Locate the VLAN IP address that corresponds to the Edge interface that you are currently connected to in order to activate the edge. Search for “Configure VLAN” on the screen that appears after going to Configure->Edge->Device. The following example shows an Edge with a single VLAN, making the selection of VLAN IPs simple; however, this is not always the case when an Edge has several VLANs. You can use the VLAN IP Address on any interface that supports that VLAN.
Launch a web browser and type in this VLAN IP address. In order to access the Graphical Local UI screen, you’ll need to provide the Local Credentials for that Edge.
Note – To access the Local Credentials for this Edge, go to Configure->Edge->Overview and look in the “Properties” section
If the edge is in NOT in activated state:-
The Edge is preconfigured and using its factory settings, so there’s no need to look for a VLAN IP address. 192.168.2.1 will be the default LAN IP. Open a new window in your browser and type that in.
A “review the configuration” link is located at the page’s bottom on an inactive Edge. If you have Edge which is already activated then you won’t need to do this step because the Overview page will be loaded instantly.
Then perform the following on the Overview page:
- For an Edge that is activated already, select Details.
- For an Edge that is not activated, select Details, followed by Diagnostics
Then go to the following page and find the “Download Diagnostic Bundle” option.
Your computer connected to the Edge will immediately download the file once the bundle is formed. Afterwards, you may submit this file for evaluation to VMware SD-WAN Support.
