Preferred VPN Exit Points

You can find a section titled Preferred VPN Exits within the SD-WAN service of the Enterprise portal. To access this part, navigate to Configure > Overlay Flow Control with the Enterprise portal. The default priorities are displayed in this area, and in addition, certain route categories are marked as being preferred over others.

Categories for VPN Exits That Are Preferred:

  • Edge: This category contains all internal routes that can be learned on a Hub or Spoke Edge, and it is designated with the highest priority. No OSPF OE 1 or OE 2 route, or BGP Uplink route, may be an internal route.
  • Hub: Any route learned on an edge or hub is considered a hub route, and it usually has lesser priority. The OSPF OE1/2 and BGP Uplink are examples of hub routes.
  • Partner Gateway: Any path that was learned on a Partner Gateway.
  • Router: Any route code learned by an Edge with BGP or OSPF is represented by a router. It also decides which dynamic route gets the most attention. In the VPN Exit, exit points above the Router are usually given a low preference value (preferred cost) and are more preferred. On the other hand, exit points below the Router are usually given a higher preference value and are less preferred.
  • As an example, when DCC is active, all routes that belong to VPN Exit Points (Edge, Partner Gateway, or Hub) and are located above Router receive a preference value that is less than 1,000,000, but routes that are located below Router receive a preference value that is larger than 1,000,000.
