Unit 1: Network Infrastructure
This will allow you to demonstrate your networking skills, knowledge, and abilities, with a focus on enterprise-level switching, routing, and multicast components that support cross-platform (inter)operability and integration with the most recent software-defined technologies.
Trunk ports (802.1Q)
The standard trunking protocol that is utilized for the purpose of transferring several VLANs across a trunk port is known as Dot1q. The traffic for many VLANs is carried via a single trunk by a trunk, which is a point-to-point link. Tags for VLANs are used by the Dot1q standard. The frame will then be stripped of the VLAN tag by the switch that is receiving it, and then it will be sent to the access port that is appropriate for it.
IEEE 802.1Q is the whole name of the Dot1q protocol.
In its appearance, the 802.1Q Tagged frame is as follows:
- There is a PRI field which is the 3-bit 802.1p priority field.
- As a general rule, Ethernet switches always have the CFI field set to 0.
- The 12-bit field known as VLAN ID
